TASIS England Lower School children raised more than £300 for Comic Relief's Red Nose Day 2017. Since its launch in 1988, the biennial fundraiser has become a staple British event when people come together to raise awareness and funds for pressing issues both at home and abroad.

The TASIS England Model United Nations team, along with MUN Director Mr. Ware and Assistant Director Ms. Covent, participated in the week-long THIMUN conference at the World Forum in The Hague last week. This year the team represented the delegation of Panama.

Middle School students welcomed the team from Swindon Reptile Rescue on February 1, during a daylong visit to several science classes. Students and teachers enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about various species of reptile and embraced the up-close-and-personal demonstration with Victor the Bosc Monitor, Henrietta, the 15ft Burmese, Bertha the 11ft Boa, and several other reptilian friends.

International correspondent and current TASIS England parent, Frank Langfitt, will deliver the Commencement address for the School's 41st annual ceremony on Saturday, June 10.
Mr. Langfitt covers stories from the United Kingdom, Ireland, and elsewhere in Europe for National Public Radio (NPR), a public non-profit media agency in the United States.

The TASIS Speech & Debate Squad hosted their largest tournament to date on Saturday, January 14. Teams from Morocco, Switzerland, and ASL came to campus to participate in a marathon day that included 58 separate competitions.
In the face of spirited opposition, TASIS England students made a strong showing throughout the tournament. In Original Oratory, junior Kamran A. and freshman Gabrielle N. shone in a field of 18 speakers, winning two of the three top prizes.

Come along to the Fleming Theatre on Thursday, February 9, at 7 p.m. to hear Ms. Gediman speak about her recent trip to Union Glacier in Antarctica. Ms. Gediman teaches fifth grade and runs the Roots & Shoots/Wildlife Club. She will discuss current issues in Antarctica, and share the results of the sustainable technology tests in which she participated.

On Wednesday, January 11, students were congratulated on their successful involvement in the worldwide movement, which took place in December and reached tens of millions of students in more than 180 countries.

May Fair, TASIS England's annual springtime tradition, took place on Saturday, May 14, and was filled with sunshine, laughter, and entertainment. The TASIS community enjoyed an afternoon of entertainment from Lower, Middle, and Upper School students and an opportunity to shop a variety of goods from a large range of vendors. From Maypole dances to musical performances (and a very popular dunk tank), the array of student-run booths, games, and activities made for an eventful celebration.

The annual Middle School Speech Contest Final took place on Wednesday, May 18, in the Fleming Theatre. Thirteen finalists – four each from Grades 6 and 7 and five from Grade 8 – participated in the event, delivering speeches 3 minutes in length following various topics. TASIS England's Headmaster, Dr. Mindy Hong, served as a judge in the competition and described the presentations as polished and impressive.

For our most recent guest, esteemed historian Dr. Bettany Hughes, "History is the study of humanity, of life. It is not the study of death." The award-winning historian, author, and broadcaster visited TASIS England on April 16, and shared with students her passion for ancient and medieval history and culture. After recently writing and presenting a new landmark BBC series on Socrates, Buddah, and Confucius, Bettany has set her sights on a new series focusing on the classical influences on Freud, Nietzsche, and Marx.
