Eighth grade students celebrated the end of the semester with a special live broadcast of TASIS TV in the Fleming Theatre for the entire Middle School.
The TASIS TV course, taught by Dr. Wenda Sheard and Mr. Geoff Nixon, provides a creative hands-on learning experience for participants. Students scout for stories, prepare interview questions, conduct interviews, write scripts, speak on camera, operate video cameras and microphones, and make production decisions.
The course covers the technical elements of broadcasting, too, with students learning to use a range of software including iMovie, Photoshop, and Toon Boom—which allows them to create cartoons—as well as stop-frame animation and voice-over techniques.
The audience for the live broadcast was treated to a mix of live studio links as well as—among other things—a TV commercial, an episode of the TASIS soap opera, a short documentary about the writing on the wall in Coldharbour Lane, and Time Out—a reality TV talent competition in the style of American Idol/X-Factor—all created by the talented TASIS TV team.
