Job Responsibilities

The following is intended as a general outline of the responsibilities of a teacher at TASIS The American School in England. The list is neither intended to be absolute and complete, nor a limitation upon the school's expectations of its faculty.

Full-time Upper School Teacher

  • Teach five classes or their equivalent in other assigned duties and associated academic responsibilities outlined below.
  • Coach or otherwise participate in the sports program or afternoon activities program two afternoons per week from 3:30-5:00pm (or equivalent in other assigned duties).
  • Supervise study halls or the Upper School Library during prep periods at the discretion of the Administrator.
  • Those provided with school housing perform boarding duty, including school coverage and driving on weekends and the beginnings and ends of vacations on a rotating basis.
  • Serve as personal and academic advisor to approximately 8-12 students.
  • Participate in and support the school's travel and activities programs.
  • Attend faculty meetings, weekly school meetings, all-school functions, and other school-sponsored events. (i.e. May Fair, Parents' Weekend, Graduation).
  • Complete annually the requirements of the school's professional growth program.

Full-time Middle School Teacher

  • Teach five classes or their equivalent in other assigned duties and associated academic responsibilities outlined below.
  • Coach or otherwise participate in the sports program or afternoon activities program two afternoons per week (or equivalent in other assigned duties)
  • Supervise study halls during prep periods at the discretion of the Administrator.
  • Serve as personal and academic advisor to approximately 8-12 students.
  • Participate in and support the school's travel and activities programs
  • Attend faculty meetings, weekly school meetings, all-school functions, and other school-sponsored events. (i.e: Science Fair/Festival, May Fair, Open Houses, Graduation).
  • Complete annually the requirements of the school's professional growth program.

Full-time Lower School/Early Childhood Program Teacher

  • Teach approximately five periods/day or their equivalent in other assigned duties and associated academic responsibilities outlined below. There are specialty teachers for Music, PE, and Library.
  • Coach or otherwise participate in the sports program or afternoon activities program two afternoons per week (or equivalent in other assigned duties) for two trimesters out of three per year for each classroom teacher (not specialists).
  • Supervise classroom from 8:10 am and handle bus duties, luncheon duties, and playground duties on a rotational basis with other classroom teachers.
  • Serve as personal and academic advisor to approximately 15-16 students.
  • Attend faculty meetings, weekly school meetings, all-school functions, and other school-sponsored events. (i.e.May Fair, Open House, Young Authors' Festival, Theatre Nights, Graduation).
  • Complete annually the requirements of the school's Professional Growth Program.
  • Participate in and support the School's travel and activities program.

Part-time Teacher

As a part-time teacher, your responsibilities will be prorated by the amount of 1/5ths you teach and will be based upon the employment expectations of a full-time teacher.
