Let there be Peace in Our World

One song for all of us,

One song could bring us peace,

One song could make a miracle for all of us,

A song of peace.

The United Nations International Day of Peace, September 21, provides an opportunity for people around the globe to come together, in spirit and in action, to engage in peace-related activities. At TASIS England, the day was celebrated with a peace march. Ms. Gediman led the Roots & Shoots Wildlife Club and lower and middle school students around campus this morning as they marched in unison while singing “Circle the World.”

The song, by folk musician Dana Lyons, was inspired by the Roots & Shoots founder Jane Goodall's idea for people around the world to make peace dove puppets every September 21. Following that theme, the students paraded along with a giant peace dove and exchanged homemade paper doves with their peers. Each dove had words of peace inscribed on the back, such as:

“Peace day should be honored every day!”

“Bring peace, joy, and happiness to the world.”

“We have wars of hate, but why don’t we just have peace.”

“There is only one world, bring peace to it.”

Fifth grade teacher and Wildlife Club founder Ms. Gediman commented, “When the students exchanged their doves it was a simple, yet uniting and powerful message that brought together the children in the Lower and Middle School today. I would like all of our students to realize that every person can make a big difference to our world.”
