With the assistance of Ms. Covent, GIN students organized and hosted the event. They sold approximately 60 tickets for the evening, which included a three-course meal, a live auction, a guest speaker, and dancing.
The speaker, Jasmin O’Hara, creator of The Worldwide Tribe, presented to the students about the current refugee crisis. Jasmin has traveled extensively around the world, documenting her adventures in destinations such as Sri Lanka, Beijing, and Brazil among others. In August 2015, she visited the area known as "The Jungle" in Calais, France. She wrote about her experience on social media and her post went viral. Soon thousands of donations for the refugees flooded her home, and The Worldwide Tribe was born. She recently spoke at the United Nations, and has also traveled to Syria, Turkey, and Greece to work with the refugees.
