Global Issues Network Charity Ball
Posted 05/10/2016 10:14AM

The Upper School Global Issues Network (GIN) hosted their inaugural Charity Ball for Upper School students on Friday, September 30, which raised £400 for the global refugee crisis.

With the assistance of Ms. Covent, GIN students organized and hosted the event. They sold approximately 60 tickets for the evening, which included a three-course meal, a live auction, a guest speaker, and dancing.

The speaker, Jasmin O’Hara, creator of The Worldwide Tribe, presented to the students about the current refugee crisis. Jasmin has traveled extensively around the world, documenting her adventures in destinations such as Sri Lanka, Beijing, and Brazil among others. In August 2015, she visited the area known as "The Jungle" in Calais, France. She wrote about her experience on social media and her post went viral. Soon thousands of donations for the refugees flooded her home, and The Worldwide Tribe was born. She recently spoke at the United Nations, and has also traveled to Syria, Turkey, and Greece to work with the refugees.

The Global Issues Network has attended two European Global Issues Network conferences over the past two years. Milan (2015) and Luxembourg (2016). The group of philanthropic students will participate in another conference in London this November.
