After weeks of preparation, the new student lounge on our South campus opened its doors to throngs of excited students.
The students’ delight was evident in their reactions:
“We love it in here!”
“It is so stylish; we can’t believe it has been done for us!”
“I can’t wait to organize dinners in here with my friends.”
“The sofas are comfy and there is loads of room to hang out after school.”
“Thank you Dr. Hong!”
Located next to the Royals café where students can buy Starbucks coffee and sweet and savory snacks, the new student lounge will undoubtedly be popular with our Upper School students. The space includes a large sitting and dining room area, a games section, and a kitchen. The lounge was designed by TASIS England parent Kimberley Rothermel in collaboration with Estates Manager Steven Marshall and Head of Housekeeping Madalina Neagu.
Students can now relax in style and comfort with their peers while using the facilities after school hours. In addition to being a communal area, boarding students can book the space for special occasions and dinner parties utilizing the large 14-seat custom-built farmhouse table.
Mrs. Rothermel worked with TASIS England’s vision of creating a functional and safe lounge to fit the needs of both day and boarding students. As she explained, “The inspiration behind the room was to create an environment that is conducive for kids to gather in a modern comfortable style, which was accomplished by colors, texture, and soft furnishings. It was important to bring the old and the new together because of the hallway connecting the Royals Café and the new room, so we incorporated the faux brick which gives you a sense of warmth, history, and continuity between both rooms. I am so glad the kids love it!”
