On the evening of March 3, Yale University's Director of International Admissions, Rebekah Westphal, pressed an audience of more than 200 individuals to, "approach the process of admissions very broadly and early on. Think about the universities and the programs, but understand the realities of the admissions landscape to avoid stress."

Joined by Don Bishop, Associate Vice President for Undergraduate Enrollment at the University of Notre Dame, the event aimed to unpack the anxiety that often accompanies the international undergraduate admissions process.

Rebekah, originally from England, completed her BA in Music and English Literature from Bennington College, and has an MA in Musicology from McGill University. Rebekah was on the faculty at The Music School of the Rhode Island Philharmonic and performed professionally with vocal ensembles across the U.S. before she joined Yale’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions in 2005. She is currently the Director of International Admissions for Yale College (with particular emphasis on Africa and Europe) and presents regularly around the world on issues surrounding international student recruitment and support. In addition to her work in admissions, Rebekah is a faculty member for the Yale Young African Scholars Program, serves on the Higher Education Advisory Committee for Cambridge International Examinations, and is a Freshman Advisor and Fellow in Berkeley College at Yale.

Don serves as the Associate Vice President of Undergraduate Enrollment at the University of Notre Dame, his alma mater. He is the university administrator responsible for Admission, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, and the Pre-College programs. During his 39 year career he has also held the senior enrollment position at Cornell University, School of Hotel Administration, Creighton University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and Ohio Wesleyan. Throughout his career, Don has placed a particular focus on assessing students beyond their academic numbers to evaluate their potential for leadership, service, and entrepreneurial activity.

Ms. Westphal and Mr. Bishop answered a series of questions from parents and students about the application process and common practice for admission to selective universities in the U.S.  Two TASIS teachers – Yale alumnus Mr. Kendall and Notre Dame alumnus Mr. Canny, moderated the session.
