In September, a group of TASIS England students will formally present the Writing Fellows Program to the community and open the TASIS Writing Centre for student use.
The Writing Centre will be located in the Upper School Library and staffed by student Writing Fellows. The Writing Fellows are students who have an interest in the writing process and who wish to take on a leadership role that allows them to help and support their peers. In one-to-one sessions, Writing Fellows will guide other students through the different stages of the writing process. They will also be available to assist teachers in classes where appropriate (e.g. essay workshop days).
After operating a pilot group of Writing Fellows this year, English teacher Mrs. Feo-Hughes is ready for the official Writing Centre to open in September. “We are all very excited about this program, and want to say thank you in advance to teachers for their support.”
Students interested in joining the fellows will answer a questionnaire and produce a writing sample to show their interest in the program. Once selected, students will be trained and supported by the Language A Department throughout the academic year and will meet with Mrs. Feo-Hughes to define their aims and hone their tutoring skills before and after the Writing Centre officially opens.
