Head of School Announcement

The Board of Directors of TASIS The American School in England announced the appointment of Mr. Bryan Nixon as Head of School, with effect from July 1, 2017.

Mr. Nixon is an international educator whose career includes schools in Northern Ireland, the Bahamas, Germany, and the United States. “His appointment is the culmination of an extensive search process that has produced the person we believe is the ideal next Head of School for TASIS England,” said Fernando Gonzalez, Chairman of the Search Committee. “It was clear that Bryan Nixon was the preferred choice of those who met the candidates during their visits.”

Mr. Nixon’s experience in educational leadership includes ten years as head of school. He currently holds that position at Whitby School, a private independent school in Greenwich, Connecticut for children in nursery through Grade 8. Prior to that, he served as the Director of Bavarian International School in Munich, a school that educates over 1,000 students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12.

“His dynamic and inspirational leadership at both of these schools strengthened their academic programs, increased enrollments, improved college and school placement results, and created effective appraisal and professional growth opportunities for faculty and staff which reinvigorated the communities with a shared sense of purpose,” commented Gonzalez. “His energy and enthusiasm are contagious and his hands-on, collaborative leadership style provides an engaging, mentoring relationship with faculty and students alike.”

Originally from Northern Ireland, he and his wife Tara look forward to their return to Europe with their three children, who will attend TASIS England. “My family and I are looking forward to joining the TASIS England and the greater TASIS family of schools very soon,” Mr. Nixon remarks. “Schools are built on the quality of the relationships that exist throughout the community and it was evident during the visit that everyone desires to see TASIS England continue to develop and continue to provide an exceptional learning environment for students and faculty alike. We are excited to join our new colleagues, peers and parents to add to these relationships and serve the community in every way we can.”

Mr. Nixon graduated from the University of Ulster with a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Commendation). He also received an Advanced Certificate in Education from Queen’s University, Belfast. A firm believer in the value of international education, he has been an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) workshop leader and evaluation site team leader for over 16 years within the IB Africa, Europe, and Middle East region and IB Americas regions.
